Team Trophies

Rules have changed at various times in the history of these competitions. The main object is to involve as many teams as possible with a fair chance of winning for all. The present scoring system (now applied in all competitions) is regarded by some as being somewhat arcane, but it seems to work reasonably well.

Notes

1972 - Scoring changed from total finishers to a percentage of team size.
1980 - Schools Trophy not awarded due to administrative errors after new entry rule introduced.
Three new trophies introduced, scoring based on times. Other was LDWA trophy for 50 miles; it has been won both times by a team entered by Martyn Greaves.
1981 - Present scoring for YHA groups, schools and scouts. Central London and TNT shared YHA trophy.
1984 - Present scoring for all throphies, based on reliability only.
