Times

Tanners has never been a race and we do not encourage its treatment as an athletic avent. However, almost everyone has some intrest in times, so here is a summary of the main achievements. For many years the earliest offical finish was at 15.00 hrs., after six hours; the increasing number of fast finishes eventually led to the introduction of the 11.00 hrs runners' start in 1979. The first Marathon is reputed to have only been 27 miles, that of 1965 up to 35 miles! Certainly the current record of 3 hrs. 39min. was achieved on a "short" course, although the variation now is generally no more than a mile.
