The Long Distance Walkers Association was founded by Chris, Alan and Barbara. Chris. Steer who had fist been attracted to Tanners by a poster in Peaslake Post Office and somehow soon found himself on the TMA had duplicating facilitiesand Alan, through his organising activitis had been receiving numerous enquiris about walks, so after much discussion they decided to publish a trial newsletter, advertise it in walking magazines and invite membership. Thus the LDWA which now has over 4,000 members and a first class magazine "Strider" edited by Chris, was founded in 1972.
